Viewer 2.5 remember it is Beta

ok no pics, just a quick help post.

LL Viewer 2.5 BETA has the new profile in webpage built in, some of you might be trying for profiles and finding yourself with a handshake problem.

Which results in no in world profile, and only the website. This caused my earlier mentioned problem of not being able to go directly to residents via edit or properties…it also gave me the problem of no mod rights abilities.

HOW TO FIX IT.

1. open Internet Explorer ( it has to be IE cannot be other webbrowsers)

2. Go to https://my.secondlife.com and log in your avatar

3. then go back to your viewer , you don’t need to log out

4. Now open a profile and you will see it loads like a webpage but inside your viewer.

5. Click the Actions button and choose set privacy and you have the mod rights options

6. Actions will also give you the chance to IM etc so YAY we are saved.

Give me a Glitch

Glitch One

Glitch two

Glitch Three

Glitch Four

Over the years I have heard EVERY single excuse for not making Glitch layers there is….inserts fingers in ears lalalalalalalalala. No seriously, there has been situations where if it was possible to throw down and do that thing like the sims where you end up a ball of dust as you wreste it out, that would have happened too. Customers don’t care if you think they are pretty or not, make them as pretty as you can, but please provide them. This was going to be a hard post to write with examples, because I do not want to point out flaws on items that either aren’t real, or have no real baring on the post…so to show you what I meant, I would either have to suddenly know how to make clothing hee hee, or use items that no longer are available.

It was an easy choice who to go with on the not available, as not only are they still so pretty and have the perfect examples almost of what I need, but they also have truly wonderful glitch pants lol. IMPORTANT : I need you to imagine in most cases though that the flexi may be sculptie, these clothes are older than sculpts as they are original Dazzle items. But my main issue with no glitch is when sculpted at least part of the time, your prims are not visible at all, so please bare that in mind.

The High Res Myth

Often Mel and I discuss questions that often come up in groups, or IMs about different things regarding Second Life limitations. I am not an expert, much of what I know I have learned from others, and by observation. What I do know though is that when I am stumped about something, I tend to go to Mel, and usually he has an incredibly precise answer. This was a recent discussion, and he mentioned that I should do a post on it, so I sent that idea back to him and invited him yet again to share his wisdom. I do hope that you get as much knowledge out of it as I did.

To some, this information is old news, but once in a while I run across designers who misunderstand something and begin to design and advertise “high res” clothing, which is built using 1024×1024 clothing textures with the hopes of allowing for more detail in the clothing design. If this were truly possible, it would be great! Unfortunately, the way the clothing system works in SL, it is not at all beneficial to upload 1024 textures for clothing, and in some cases it is even harmful to the design, as I’ll illustrate below.

For this example, I have made 2 textures containing 1 pixel wide black and white vertical stripes – one with 512×512 pixels, and the other with 1024×1024. The textures were then applied to a skin, and I have photographed the results.

AO Tutorial – Second Life

This is how I make my AO’s and how I have guided others in the past. This tutorial was supposed to have been done ages ago, but I could never get around to it until now.

The new VR Studio has made it an even easier method now with the new libraries, as in the past I would have had to do so with lots of stands. This is how I do it… and is just a suggestion as to how you can make your own unique to you AO by combining the animations and existing AO’s you may already have.

* Firstly rez all the AO’s you have in your inventory. see pic 1

Get all your ao's together to unpack

As you may know already I love to shoot AO’s for fashion posts etc, so I have a lot of them as sometimes it can be financially viable to buy an ao and get lots of pics out of one animation, than to buy single poses.

* Unpack all the AO’s you have now rezzed on the ground. see pic 2

Clean up of Hair and Hands

I am really nervous about this, and have wanted to do it for a long time. I finally was able to screen capture PS to show you how I clean up images that have hands stuck in prims etc. This isnt something that I often do for my blog pics, but something I worked out how to do with trial and error for taking vendor pics in the past for work ( no I don’t alter the pics to seem better etc, but hair sticking through the body can sometimes be a hassle, that is how I worked this out).

I have done this using voice, and please don’t laugh :( I was so nervous I sound totally different than how I talk in world.

I really hope that this helps people, often I have seen comments regarding this issue and wondered why it hasn’t been shown until now, it doesn’t have to be about the poses, you can of course use ones that don’t cause this, but this way you can be a bit more adventurous with the poses you have. I am so far from being a PS expert or someone who can even give a good tutorial (even the word makes me nervous), but I seem to pick up things along the way, more so when I am working on work pictures that aren’t for my blog at all, picture pile ups group in flickr has given me the chance to really explore PS a lot more than I do with blog pics.

Anyway you can see the movie I made HERE . (remember no laughing I am still sooo nervous).
