I have always said you learn something new everyday in Second Life. That is true, and often it is the things we expect are known all over; that are in fact usually the opposite. Example would be todays little Second Life Tier lesson. I have had a sim now – The Deck – for two years, and I will admit that for at least the first year I was an ignorant land owner. Which seeing as I have had my own 512 since 2006 is even worse, but I will let myself off the hook there seeing as I have that tier as part of my premium account perks.

Now it is pretty well known that I have worked for many in Second Life, and most of those people owned their own sims. But I must say learning by example is not always a good thing, especially when dealing with finances from different countries. My bosses of the past were always Americans up to the point of owning my own sim. So for them to ‘cash out’ was a simple process, especially in the days of doing so through Xstreet. But for me for years I had always cashed out from Xstreet to Paypal to Australia Bank to Credit Card. Then once I owned a sim I did the same and they would bill my CC.

If you are doing this too, whichever country you are from STOP RIGHT NOW. I was paying fees and currency exchange fees all over the damn place, but again this was my own ignorance, and my settling to believe that that was the one and only way. It isn’t, and seriously this is no ones fault, it is again just one of those things everything thinks everyone knows.

When you sell your Lindens via your account info on the Second Life main website, the money is converted to a US Dollar amount. Once that occurs STOP. The way linden labs at the time of this announcement lol, is that they go through your USD balance first and if all the money they need is there that is as far as they go. If your balance is lacking part of the money owed, only then do they go to your Credit Card or whatever money paying info you have provided them – this is why it is always a nice thing to pay your rent on time if renting from others, because if the lindens go to credit cards because there isn’t enough money in USD it can really effect the RL of your landlord, but that is another thing altogether.

So don’t be silly like I was for a year, once you have the USD balance all good and full enough to cover your tier leave it there, and if like me you see the linden is giving good money at other times, sell some of your lindens to up your USD balance, the money isn’t going anywhere as either USD or L’s.

On the look out for Yax

I can barely see my screen these days, I have the worst desktop in all of the world. I clean it to near empty and within days it is full again, I have to refresh how icons are shown just to find things I have just uploaded. But now there is a new toy to play with, so I don’t see myself doing anything about my desktop in a hurry. Linden Labs has just launched their own Networking features.

If you like wall talking like facebook and, have a twitter or plurk fixation, this might be right up your next alley. Go to <a href=”https://my.secondlife.com/”><strong>https://my.secondlife.com/</strong></a> and log in, and you will see a wall of text, so many familiar names as it is straight from your Friends List. That is why I like it so much, because they are people that over the years I have actually had some interaction in world with. Not opposed to meeting new people, but the idea of adding friends because you got points of Karma for it – kind of made me think that it was probably bad karma – nice way to communicate with others all at once, and you can make it visible to all second lifers, or just friends, or even the world. The choices are yours, however in settings notifications for now I suggest unchecking all but notifications by email on your own posts, because so far in only a few hours I have filled two pages of gmail, and capping may be an issue with in world notifications once logged off.

Anyways in search of wild beasts of the Amazon, ok wait a minute, I watched the Pilot for Wonder Woman and while it was okaaaaaay, what struck me as insane was that there was a 5 minute fight scene with her and 20 guys and all through it you saw every single rope and pulley of them being pulled backwards if hit, or her jumping high or across a room, as well as even a door being pulled down a corridor as it was kicked in. WHAT THE? I have watched so much TV in my life and never ever seen such bad effects, maybe one rope by accident and so on, but every single shot for the full time, it was awful. I found out since though that it was dropped by the company doing it, and I am really sad face, because Wonder Woman was an incredible show for me as a kid, and had such potential for a series now.

Button down Rockstar

Doing the Rockstar look today. Well maybe not intented to be one, but if I was going to be on stage doing my thing I would so be all about looks like this one – I have also been humming Tex Perkins “Lawyer” for the past two hours so that helped my mood a bit. I love button down dresses, almost as much as button down coats, but I think you get a lot more out of doing something like this with a dress.

It’s in the way that you shade it

Wow it is over for another year. Hair Fair is such a big part of the committee’s lives for the months leading up to, that after it is all over and the booths are all packed away – thank you so much Mel and Whimsy – there is this kind of ‘ So um what now ? ” feeling.

Well to make sure that I didn’t fall back into the same old same old, I got right back on my VR Studio and took some pics of these great new releases. First off for the past few days I have been strutting around Second Life in these jeans admiring my own bottom.

Hair Fair 2011 – Bandana Day

My first experience with Hair Fair was Bandana Day. In 2007 Six Kennedy asked me to be the one that organised it, when I went to her suggesting it as an idea. I never i8magined what it would do, how people would embrace it, and yet every year people come forward from all over SL wanting to create one, or letting us know that they have sent their whole group over, held events wearing them and so on.

This years mix of bandanas is as awesome as years previous, there are RP themed ones, beach themed ones, fun retro ones, and very glamorous ones. Today is the day that we remove our hair to show we care. A day without hair to show some support to those that have lost, or are losing their hair to illness, not a lot to ask for, and it is just your avatar that does it. Mind you some have actually cut hair in past years and sent to charity to help in that way also.

Many over the years collect the bandanas and wear them to other laggy events, I see them often through the year, and cannot help but be proud that it is Hair Fair that provided that oppurtunity. Also the are transferable, so you can buy many and share with friends, or pass to others when it is laggy. Whatever you do, or are doing, or have done, this year so far the bandanas have raised over a Hundred Thousand Lindens and as they sell for only 50L each, that is awesome.

So whether you wear them today, or in the future, just be sure to buy some, because they are only available at the Fair, and if you haven’t looked yet, you may find out that someone you know made one…don’t want to miss out on that.

Also not wanting to miss out on is the Second Hair Fair Flickr Contest. It ends tomorrow but the access to the fair ends tonight at Midnight, which is only 14 hours to go. The contest prizes are amazing, and if you already have the pro we can add the time on, so don’t not enter because of that – some have asked.

I heard a secret today, well ok not really a secret, but Royal Blue is having a 50% off ALL BLUE items SALE. Now I am pretty sure it has started, but the only way to know for sure is to compare the prices of the blue items to other colours. If half price then BUY BUY BUY. Hair Fair 2011 – Tight Tight Baby

So many exciting ways to create hair, it is what I most love about Hair in Second Life, that with the same tools available people can still come up with unique and fun ways to showcase their talent. I also love the textures that have appeared at this years fair, as well as the number of developed Hair Base Tattoos, that have definitely improved since last year…

Just a reminder that the Flickr Contest is on until the 16th at Midnight, DO NOT MISS OUT, the pics so far are amazing and the prizes are wonderful. Also as it is almost the last day of the fair that means it is also coming up to Bandana Day, the 15th of July this year, but always last day of the fair. We remove our hair to show we care and wear one of the Bandanas modified by people from all over sl. You can buy one or more from the Hair Fair only for 50L and they are mod transfer, so you can send them to friends, and change throughout the day a few times, they are lots of fun and the money from their sale all goes to Wigs for Kids.
